The letter H is probably the most crucial consonant in the spoken English language.
If it's not pronounced correctly, it is very difficult to understand what's being said, and the person you're talking to might even understand a completely different word.
The letter h has to be pronounced with a lot of air.
Here are some examples:
Now try saying this sentence, and don't forget to prononounce every single h with air: Harry has a huge hole in his hairy hat.
Here are some examples of what can happen if you don't pronounce the letter h with air:
Hair without the h becomes air
Heat without the h becomes eat
Heel without the h becomes eel
Here or Hear without the h becomes ear
Hi without the h becomes eye
Hill without the h becomes ill
There are only a few exceptions of words in which the H is silent, and here are a few:
