Hi there!

During this lesson we're going to learn how to pronounce the letter i

The letter i is the most problematic vowel.

The English 'i', in its pure form, has a 'flat' sound which is much less acute than the i in Latin based languages such as French, Italian, or Spanish.

Here are some examples:

Hill
Hit
Bit
Fit

You have to pronounce the letter i correctly, otherwise it can completely change the meaning of a word.

For example:

If hill were to be pronounced with a Latin sounding i, then it would mean heel or heal.

If hit were to be pronounced with a Latin sounding i, then it would mean heat.

If bit were to be pronounced with a Latin sounding i, then it would mean beat.

If fit were to be pronounced with a Latin sounding i, then it would mean feet.

So, now that you know how to pronounce the letter i, remember that if you meet a cool girl or guy on GoSpeakEnglish and they come to stay at your home...the thing that you'll need to change on your bed...is a sheet!

And that's the end of this lesson!

Now you can see if you've understood the video, and do the test on GoSpeakEnglish. You can also watch many other English video lessons on GoSpeakEnglish.

Thanks, and I hope to see you again soon!
