Hi there!

During this lesson we're going to learn how to pronounce words which contain the letters: ng

When the letter: g comes immediately after the letter: n either in the middle of a word or at the end, the: g is often silent.

When the letters: ng are immediately followed by the letters: L or R, as in: angle, jungle, mingling, and: angry, hungry, and congress, then the: g is pronounced with a hard g sound.

When the letters: ng are immediately followed by a vowel, then the: g can either be silent, hard, or soft. The easiest thing is to just learn them one by one as they come along!

The: ng sound is produced by closing your throat with the back of your tongue.

Please note that the tip of your tongue should never touch the roof of your mouth.

To make things easier, try to imagine that you are going to say each word with the hard g sound, but then block yourself just before pronouncing it.

For example, let's say that you're want to say the word: running.

First pretend that you're going to say it with the hard g sound, as in: running, but before you get to that g sound, just block yourself and say: running, running.

Here are some other examples:

Shopping
Cooking
Eating
Drinking
Humming

And that's the end of this lesson!
